Milence opens two charging hubs in Sweden, enabling electric road transport between Stockholm, Malmö and Gothenburg

18 December 2024
• The two hubs are strategically located along the Scandinavian Mediterranean TEN – T corridor, connecting Sweden to the South of Europe
• With 3 hubs open and a fourth under development to open in early 2025, Sweden is a leading market for the Milence network.

Amsterdam, 18 December 2024Milence, the joint venture between Daimler Truck, the TRATON GROUP and Volvo Group, opens two hubs in Sweden, one located in Landvetter right next to Gothenburg airport and one in Ödeshög on the transport road towards Stockholm to support the transition to electric road transport in the Nordic countries.

Anja van Niersen, CEO of Milence, is excited about the strong year end for Milence: “With these 2 additional hubs in Sweden, the Milence network in Europe has reached 10 hubs and 70 charging bays, making electric road transport a reality along major transport routes. The support of local municipalities, such as Ödeshög, is key to acceleration, as is close cooperation with grid operators and transport companies, and we are committed to further developing these partnerships. The progress we have made is a testament to what the future of transport can look like, and we are more determined than ever to make it a reality on every route in Europe.”

Continued expansion in Sweden as key market
This announcement follows the opening of Milence’s first charging hub in Sweden, located in Varberg and connecting Gothenburg and Malmö, in October 2024.

One of the charging hubs is located on a 10,000 square metre site in Ödeshög, a prime location 260 km from Stockholm along the busy E4 motorway. This hub has 8 charging bays and up to 400kW of power and is located close to a number of important facilities. A new logistics centre is under construction nearby, adding to its strategic importance. Due to its location, the hub will serve as a crucial link in the electrification of the key route between Stockholm and Malmö.

The Landvetter hub is located next to Gothenburg airport and offers 4 charging bays and up to 400 kW of power. Located at a major logistics hub and transport corridor, it serves as a critical link for heavy-duty vehicles travelling between urban centres, industrial areas and international routes. Its proximity to the airport further enhances connectivity for freight and logistics operations. The development of this hub is still in its first phase. In the first half of 2025, the expansion of the bays and the implementation of the Milence design concept will take place.

Seamless charging and a rest and recharge experience
The Milence charging hubs are intended to be a place where trucks and drivers can rest and recharge. For this reason, the hub in Ödeshög provides a comfortable environment for drivers, with a lounge area, showers and toilets. The parking area is fenced and secured with access control, illuminated and equipped with camera surveillance and Wi-Fi for an enhanced experience. The one in Landvetter will also be upgraded in phase 2 to provide the same experience.
