- Kaufland is taking the next step in environmentally friendly delivery to its stores with electric trucks in a partnership with charge point operator Milence.
- Milence is planning to open a charging hub in the immediate vicinity of the distribution center in Barsinghausen, in the second quarter of this year.
Berlin, Germany – January 20, 2026 –Three electric trucks have been delivering from Barsinghausen to Kaufland stores in the Hanover area since 2024. Until now, two mobile charging units were available directly at the logistics center. Now the location is getting access to a public charging hub dedicated for e-trucks right at its doorstep. At the Milence charging hub, electric trucks will be able to charge at four 400kW CCS chargers. There are plans to expand the charging capacity in the future.
With the planned opening of the electric charging hub in Barsinghausen, six additional electric trucks will be in use for Kaufland logistics. The four charging bays now enable the increased use of electric trucks with longer ranges, which means that even more distant stores in northern Germany can now be supplied from Barsinghausen.
Taking into account the average payload, the nine electric trucks now save around 700 tons of CO₂e per year, making an important contribution to Kaufland’s sustainability goals. We will be charging 100 percent certified green electricity at the charging park.
“We want to make our logistics at Kaufland sustainable and future-oriented. To achieve this, we are relying on strong alliances. This partnership between Kaufland and Milence is unique in the food retail sector and opens up the possibility for us to expand the necessary charging infrastructure at other locations as well. With Milence, a premium partner with a Europe-wide charging network, we can make an important contribution to reducing CO₂ emissions in logistics,” says Pascal Siegmund, Head of SCM International Transport Logistics at Kaufland.
Our partnership with Kaufland shows how freight buyers can accelerate truck electrification by aggregating demand and enabling their transport partners, large and small, to take their first steps towards electrifying their fleet,” says Tobias Prenzel, Business Development and Partnership Lead at Milence. “By securing TCO-friendly conditions, Kaufland is a frontrunner in their industry and helps de-risk early adoption and build confidence in the transition.
While our site near Hanover serves the strategic corridor linking Western Europe and the Ruhr area with Berlin and eventually Poland, initial demand is secured from Kaufland’s regional grocery logistics, highlighting how our charging hubs support both long-haul and regional freight. We’re excited to see this project ramp up and to replicate this approach with more partners across Europe.”
Kaufland is entering into a partnership with a charge point operator for the first time at one of its logistics locations with Milence. Milence operates a Europe-wide public charging network for electric trucks. The charging hub in Barsinghausen is located directly adjacent to the warehouse and will be gradually expanded, including Megawatt Charging System (MCS) points as the number of electric trucks increases. This presents Kaufland with a great opportunity to scale its electric truck strategy and expand with additional vehicles at the location in the future. The close partnership model allows Kaufland, as a premium customer of Milence, to prioritize its electric trucks.
Since the start of store deliveries with electric trucks at the end of 2023, Kaufland Logistics has already driven over 1.5 million kilometers electrically.
