Ghent, Belgium – March 4, 2026 – Milence, the joint venture between Daimler Truck, the TRATON GROUP and the Volvo Group, today opened a new public charging hub in Ghent and its fourth in Belgium. Strategically located just off the Schansakker exit on the R4, the hub offers electric trucks a seamless and reliable charging experience in one of Belgium’s most vital industrial and logistics regions.
Built in collaboration with Volvo Group the Ghent charging hub is part of a broader zero-emission mobility initiative designed to accelerate the shift to fossil-free road transport. In its first phase, the hub features four high-power CCS charging bays, each capable of delivering up to 400 kW, making it an essential stop for fleet operators on the move. In a second development phase, Milence also plans a swift transition to Megawatt Charging System (MCS) technology, enabling faster, more reliable, and more efficient charging, with truck batteries charged in 30 to 45 minutes. The solution is already in operation at Milence hubs in Zwolle (Netherlands), the Port of Antwerp-Bruges (Belgium), and Landvetter (Sweden).
Enabling electric road transport along the North Sea-Mediterranean Corridor
The new hub at North Sea Port in Ghent enhances connectivity along the TEN-T North Sea–Mediterranean Corridor, strengthening clean freight routes that link Belgium with major logistics regions in France, the Netherlands, and Germany. It forms part of a growing network in the region, which already includes two Milence charging hubs in the Port of Antwerp–Bruges and one hub in Maasmechelen, supporting cross-border traffic and port logistics. Located adjacent to the Volvo factory, the hub in Ghent offers a highly strategic and practical solution for fleets operating across national borders.
Driver-focused design and competitive tariffs for a growing electric truck adoption
Designed specifically for trucks, regardless of brand, the Ghent hub combines easy access, drive-through charging, and sanitary facilities to ensure comfortable breaks. Flexible payment options are available, including direct contactless payments, e-Mobility Service Provider (eMSP) cards, and the Milence Charge Card.
Milence recently introduced a market‑based pricing model across its European network, aligning tariffs with local energy costs and operational realities to support predictable costs and improved total cost of ownership for fleets of all sizes. In Belgium, the base charging tariff decreased to €0.379 per kWh (excl. VAT) as of January 1st, 2026, making charging even more cost‑competitive for operators in the region.
As electric truck adoption accelerates, Milence remains committed to expanding its network in step with market needs. The opening of the Ghent hub marks another milestone in our corridor‑first rollout strategy, bringing reliable, charging infrastructure to the busiest freight routes and logistics hubs in Europe.
Accelerating fossil‑free road transport through industry partnership
“Ghent is a key logistics gateway, and this new hub strengthens our network along Europe’s main freight corridors,” said Anja van Niersen, CEO of Milence. “Developed in close collaboration with the Volvo Group, it shows how industry partnerships can accelerate the transition to zero-emission road transport while responding to evolving market needs. Our goal is to further support this acceleration by expanding our network and making electric trucking simple and cost-efficient for fleet operators.”
Sustainable transformation
“‘Shaping the world we want to live in’, Volvo Group’s vision for the future of transport, is a major driving force for me to come to work every day with energy and enthusiasm. With the opening of the first part of this mobility hub, we are once again taking a step forward in the sustainable transformation of our site, North Sea Port and the transport sector. Thanks to strong partnerships like this, we can further strengthen the supply chain to and from the warehouse and the truck factory, which is key for the future.” – Koen Leemans, Head of Volvo Group Belgium.
