Amsterdam, September 16, 2024 – Milence, the joint venture between Daimler Truck, the TRATON GROUP and Volvo Group unveils its comprehensive European charging network, which includes 70 strategically located hubs with over 570 high-power charging points at the IAA Transportation, the leading international platform for logistics, commercial vehicles, buses, and the transportation sector in general. The hubs are in various stages of development and scheduled to open throughout 2025, making it the largest public charging network for heavy-duty trucks in Europe to date, covering 10 key markets: Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, Spain, UK and Poland. 3 of these hubs are already operational in the Netherlands, France and Belgium, with more hubs opening in Sweden and Germany in October. The hub in Belgium at the Port of Antwerp – Bruges is one of Europe’s largest public charging hubs with 20 bays in operation.
The highest number of hubs to be built in Germany
With more than 30% of Europe’s road transport, Germany is by far the dominant market, making it one of the most important markets for Milence. The Hermsdorfer Kreuz hub will be the first to open in Germany and additional 24 hubs in the current Milence network will enable electric road transport in the country with the highest density of heavy-duty trucks in Europe. Vockerode, Himmelkron, Hüttenberg, Kirchberg an der Jagst, Kassel Lohfelden and Recklinghausen are the next to become operational.
The European electric routes
With the development of the Milence public charging network, some of Europe’s busiest routes, like Antwerp – Duisburg, Gothenburg-Malmö, Paris-Le Havre and Berlin – Munich will be electrified.
These routes presented today will enable logistics companies to better plan their transition to electrification.
Under the motto, “Recharging Trucks and Drivers for Sustainable Road Transport, the company revealed its Charging Hub concept including its latest megawatt charging solution from Power Electronics. This cutting-edge technology, able to deliver up to 1.44MW (1,500A @960V) and which has been tested with real vehicle delivering 1MW+, will be rolled out in 5 of the Milence charging hubs in the coming months. The Megawatt Charging System (MCS) is the newly defined standard for high-power charging, designed to meet the needs of the growing electric truck market. The solution will dramatically reduce charging times, making electric trucks more practical and efficient for long-haul transport by allowing trucks to charge from 10% to 80% in around 30 minutes, thanks to the 1,440 kW power that can be achieved.”
