Driving efficiency: unlocking TCO advantage with early eHDV adoption

Switching to electric heavy-duty vehicles (eHDVs) is not just about sustainability. Economics play a central role, and a question remains central for every fleet operator: When does going electric make financial sense?  Our new lifecycle Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analysis reveals that the answer is sooner than many expect. While annual cost comparisons can make diesel look cheaper in the short term, looking at the entire lifecycle tells a different story: early adoption of eHDV leads to long-term savings and secures a stronger competitive edge.  To illustrate how the methodology works in practice, we analysed two distinct cases: regional distribution in the Netherlands and long-haul transport in Germany.

The transportation revolution: trends that can shape it in 2025 and beyond!

Transportation is the backbone of the global economy, and its importance will only continue to grow. Giving it a high profile when discussing an Action Plan for Europe’s automotive future is essential. Europe’s electric truck market is projected to hit 15% by 2030, underscoring this expansion and the shift towards sustainable transport. This growth will also be fuelled by a rapidly expanding Heavy-Duty Vehicle (HDV) charging network, with over €15 billion expected of being invested in Europe’s electric truck charging infrastructure, creating significant opportunities for businesses.

The Milence Charging Hubs – a place to rest & recharge

Transportation is undergoing drastic changes with rapid technological advancements, intense discussions, and new regulations in the fight against climate change. During these turbulent times, it is important not to overlook the heartbeat of our highways. An ever-present part of the landscape of transportation are truck drivers. They are required to work long hours and often find themselves on the road for extended periods of time. Through wind and weather, they are critical in ensuring cargo arrives in time and in good condition at its destination. In the design process of the distinctive Milence charging hubs, truck drivers and sustainability form two of the most important pillars.

Smart Energy Hubs: the missing link in Europe’s mission to sustainable road transport

In the battle against climate change, two critical fronts are emerging: the transition to renewable energy sources and the decarbonisation of transportation. New battery electric trucks are the driving force of the road transport transition. Meanwhile, the transition towards more connected renewables and electric trucks could be hampered if grid infrastructure investments do not keep up. The solution? Smart energy hubs along highways that integrate multiple renewable energy resources, storage devices, and consumption points using advanced controls, communication, and data analytics. The goal would be to improve energy efficiency, optimise energy management, reduce costs, and enhance grid reliability. This article explores the status quo and what is needed to accelerate both the energy and transport transitions, while explaining how data sharing drives Europe towards a sustainable future.
